One of the best things about Japan is its high quality cuisine. A trip to the country will not be complete without trying a wide selection of delicious dishes. If you want to dine and experience something fun and unique at the same time, be sure to visit the following themed restaurants:

Robot Restaurant

To dazzle your eyes with the vibrant and eccentric side of Japan while enjoying a range of Japanese foods, reserve a dinner spot at the Robot Restaurant.

Highlighted by a lively and glamorous performance of robots battling female warriors dressed in different brightly-coloured costumes, Robot Restaurant provides foreigners with a spectacle not available anywhere else. The stage is lavishly adorned with mirrors and lights, creating a feel of being in a futuristic dimension.

Located in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district, the average cost per person for dinner is around 5,000 yen, which includes the entrance fee, food and drink. It is about a five-minute walk from Shinjuku Station.

Ninja Akasaka

For those fascinated by ninja lore, check out Ninja Akasaka, a ninja-themed restaurant in Tokyo.

The restaurant recreates the world of ninja and presents as a fortress. Upon entering, you walk along a dark, narrow pathway and arrive at a room where you are welcomed by staff dressed in traditional ninja costumes. You are then led through a maze-like corridor until you reach the main dining space.

The average dinner per person may cost around 4,000 to 5,000 yen. It is a three-minute walk from the Akasaka-mitsuke Station.

Zauo Fishing Restaurant

With multiple locations around Japan, including in Shinjuku, Osaka and Nagoya, Zauo Fishing Restaurant allows their customers to catch their own meals from the restaurants’ fish tanks. The expert chefs then prepare the freshly-caught fish as you desire, as sashimi, sushi, shioyaki, zosui, honesenbei or kabutoyaki, for example.

If someone in your group is not fond of seafood, Zauo Fishing Restaurants offer seafood-free options such as fries, fried chicken, tori-tsukune and desserts.

Their menu includes a variety of cuisines that may be served with eyeballs, in test tubes or with other macabre aspects to them, and drinks cost around 700 to 800 yen.

It is a three-minute walk from Shinjuku Station.

Alice’s Fantasy

An Alice in Wonderland themed restaurant, Alice’s Fantasy has six branches in Tokyo. The tables are shaped like tea cups, and the ambience is created with beautiful lamps and lights. There are banners, framed card decks, photos of characters on the walls, and the waitresses are all dressed as Alice.

Food options available include non-alcoholic Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum cocktails, pizza shaped like Cheshire Cat’s tail, sushi rolls that look like the Caterpillar, and several desserts. Cost per person is around 2,000 yen.
